Janet Joan Martin's Obituary
Janet Joan Martin died Friday , February 4, 2011, at home with family, after a five year battle with cancer. She was born October 1, 1930, in Terre Haute, Indiana to Wiley and Esther Greenleaf. She graduated from Garfield High School and attended Indiana State University for two years before being employed by General Motors Acceptance Corp. She married George D. Martin on December 8, 1950. (The couple had just celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.) Janet continued her employment with GMAC after the couple moved to Tulsa, as George was hired by KVOO news. She retired as accounting manager after 44 years. Janet loved to be active. She never missed an opportunity to swim, and played golf regularly. Although the couple had no children, Janet was a most devoted great aunt, supporting all activities of her five great nieces and nephews. Janet is survived by her husband George D. Martin, her niece, Sharon Thomson and husband Dave, of Broken Arrow, Her great niece, Kelli Collins and husband Kip, and their children Konnor and Kaleb, of Broken Arrow, and great nephew Kyle Thomson and wife Deidre, of Allen, Texas. Her family in Indiana include, Larry Meddles, husband of niece Barbara Meddles (Deceased), great nephews Matthew Meddles and wife Gillian, and Martin Meddles, and great niece Jennifer Meddles and daughter Karly Hibner. Family and friends will gather Saturday, February 19, at 1:00 P.M. at Meadowbrook Country Club for a Memorial and Remembrance. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to breast cancer research.
