Janet Moore's Obituary
Janet Sue Moore (née James), age 73, passed away peacefully on April 9, 2026, in Bixby, Oklahoma. Born on October 8, 1952, in McAlester, Oklahoma, Janet lived a life dedicated to education, family, and service to others.
Janet was the adopted daughter of Leroy and Hettie Belle James of Tulsa. She grew up in a loving home where faith played a central role; her father served as a deacon in their Baptist church. Janet carried these values with her throughout her life.
A proud graduate of Nathan Hale High School in Tulsa, Janet pursued higher education with determination and passion. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Special Education from Oklahoma State University in Stillwater and later obtained a certification in low vision education from Northeastern State University in Tahlequah. Her commitment to Learning extended beyond herself as she devoted her career to empowering others through education.
For 35 years, Janet taught within Tulsa Public Schools, leaving an indelible mark on countless students and colleagues. As the Department Head at Grover Cleveland Middle School for much of her tenure, she was known for her leadership and dedication to fostering an inclusive learning environment. Janet also served as a Low Vision Educator for the Blind and Visually Impaired, demonstrating her unwavering commitment to supporting students with unique needs. Her fun-loving spirit and compassionate approach made her not only an exceptional teacher but also a cherished mentor.
Janet's love for family was evident in every aspect of her life. She is survived by her devoted husband, Carl Moore; daughter Carrie and Troy Thornton of Keefton, Oklahoma, granddaughter Taylor Grace Thornton of Muskogee; great-grandson Bane Carr of Muskogee; Kayleigh & Eric Spearman of Broken Arrow and Grandson Cooper Spearman; and Daughter Heather Elmers of Henryetta, Oklahoma; Scout Parchman and Heidi Parchman of Henryetta; and Janet also leaves behind cousins Susie Turner of Cypress, Texas, and Judy Warner of Littleton, Colorado; aunt Rosa Lee Hankey of Katy, Texas (106 years old); sisters-in-law Nita Moore of Tulsa; Laraine Moore of Satsuma, Florida; Lin & Roy Barmore of Catoosa; as well as many friends who were touched by her kindness.
She was preceded in death by her parents Leroy and Hettie Belle James; father-in-law Dr.
Lin Moore of Muskogee; mother-in-law Terry Tapp of Tulsa; brothers-in-law Arnold Moore of Bixby and Kai Moore of Satsuma.
Janet's legacy is one of love, laughter, and service. Those who knew her will remember her as a fun-loving educator who brought joy into every room she entered. Her memory will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know her.
