Janice Carolyn Steed's Obituary
Janice Carolyn Harmon Steed Janice Carolyn Harmon Steed, known as Jan to most, passed away June 12, 2016 at home with her family gathered round. Jan was born October 14, 1940 in Lamar, AR, to Arvil Earl Harmon and Beulah Pauline Lollis Harmon. After her father returned from WWII they moved to Tulsa, OK where she has lived ever since. She graduated from Central High School in Tulsa, OK in 1958 and married John Lewis Steed Jr. also in 1958. She worked in several Credit Union’s in Tulsa most of her working years. Janice was preceded in death by her parents and her husband as well as a daughter Michele Darlene Ferguson aka Chele in 2010. She is survived by two brothers Roger and his wife Maddy Harmon and Randy and his Carol Harmon, all of Vinita, OK. Her daughter Jonalyn Smith and husband Terry and son Kenneth Bryan Steed all of Tulsa, OK. Grandchildren: Craig Bryan Steed and fiancé Kelly Adams, Audrey Stairs and fiancé Dennis Balthazar all of Broken Arrow, OK; Vanessa Kebert and husband Cory; Cynthia Ingram and husband Terry; Brent Allen Smith, and Jesse Steed Ferguson all of Tulsa, OK; and Angie Stairs Brannon and husband Jason of Arlington, KS. 8 Great Grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Janice had many hobbies and a passion for art, she loved to sew and sewed for other people for several years. She also had a great desire to paint and sketch portraits, she loved to garden and was a wealth of knowledge on plants of all kinds. She was also a wonderful cook. She grew up during the years following WWII and learned to make the best out of whatever situation you were presented with. Many times she told us “if you have lemons, make lemonade”. She loved her family and cherished any chance to spend time and visit with them. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her pride and joy. She came of age in the 1950’s and was a great fan of Elvis Presley. She even painted a life size portrait of Elvis on her bedroom wall, much to her father’s chagrin, it unfortunately was painted over. She had a strong faith and wasn’t afraid to talk to anyone about it. Jan will be so greatly missed by all her family and friends.Visitation will be 12:00 PM to 8:00 PM with the family receiving friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, on Thursday, June 16th, Floral Haven Funeral Home.Funeral service will be 10:00 AM, Friday, June 17th, Floral Haven Funeral Home Chapel with committal to follow.
