She returned to Oklahoma and served as Professor of Pediatrics and most recently as Division Director of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology at the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine in Oklahoma City. She is nationally recognized for her clinical and research expertise in pediatric bleeding disorders and thrombosis.
She is survived by her parents, Gail and Sheila Journeycake; siblings Mike (Jodie) Journeycake, Joey (David) Banks, Jeri (Jason) Phillips; her sibling’s children Jessica, Jasen, & Jack Journeycake; Birch & Cole Banks; Noah & Max Phillips; godchildren Jack & Ben Crawford; Olivia Blakelock. She was supported in her life by her many friends especially Chris & Tim Crawford and Christi & David Blakelock. She often stated her work as a pediatric hematologist would not be complete without the help of her administrative and nursing staff. She was always grateful for the joy her cats, Peter and Piper, gave her.
Janna truly loved her work and the children she treated; they were like her own. She was compassionate and loving and willing to do the hard work during the pandemic to keep clinic access for her patients. Her legacy will live through the countless lives that she has touched and the vast amount of work she did in pediatric hematology. She will be missed by many, but her courage and love for her family, friends and patients will never be forgotten.
