Jean Hackler Atchison's Obituary
Jean Hackler Atchison was born May 15, 1928 and died December 3, 2022. Norma Jean White, was affectionally known as Nonie to her childhood family and Mimi to her 6 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
Jean was born Silver Creek, Nebraska to Myrtle and John White. She graduated from Silver Creek Schools in 1946 and enrolled in Kearney State Teachers College in Kearney Nebraska where she graduated with a degree in teaching. After which she taught school in Grand Island, Nebraska.
In 1953 she was recruited to teach in Pueblo Colorado, this would prove to be a pivotal era in her life. Within a year she met James Glenn Hackler and they married in November 1955. Through Glenn’s employment with Texaco the new couple lived in Wichita and Salina Kansas. It was December 23, 1957, that their first child, Vicki Lynn was born. Later, on March 21, 1960, James Kelly was born.
In 1965 the family moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma where they became charter members of Asbury Church. Jean was active in many ministries including Scholarship Committee, Greeting Ministry and UMW, she remained a member until her death. Jean taught first grade at Key Elementary School from 1967 until she retired in August 1987. She had such a magnificent influence on hundreds of young lives. She was an avid bridge player and created many wonderful friendships along the way. Glenn died on October 20, 1996.
In January 2002 she married longtime friend Hugh Atchison. They were married 15 years, until his death on October 22, 2017.
Jean is survived by daughter Vicki Lynn Durie and husband Tim, son James Kelly Hackler and wife Kathy. Grandchildren, Brittany Lynn Durie, Amanda Marie Perkins, Charles Garrett Durie, Troy Matthew Durie, Amy Beth Baker, James Cory Hackler and four great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death are her first husband, James Glenn Hackler, second husband, Hugh Atchison, her parents, Myrtle and John White and a sister, Kathleen Schott.
Services will be Friday, December 9 at 2:00 p.m. at Floral Haven Chapel, 6500 S 129th E Ave, Broken Arrow, OK. In leu of flowers please consider a contribution to Children’s Medical Charities in Tulsa
