Jennifer Ellen Rex's Obituary
Jennifer Ellen Rex: If you know that name, you probably owe her rent — so pay up, it won’t be pretty if she has to get Jesus involved. Consider this your official notice: Jennifer Rex, affectionately known as “Umah”, entered eternal life on September 20, 2022. Her spirit is carried on by her four children, five grandchildren, four surviving siblings, mother, and an extended family of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, real estate agents, first-time home buyers, landlords, tenants, handymen, plumbers, electricians, cheap laborers and more. Born in Tulsa, Oklahoma, on March 9, 1953, Jennifer was known for her passion for real estate. She was a long-time broker and agent, property manager and investor, and the lessons she left behind are many. She taught us that you make your money when you buy. That houses don’t sell unless the sellers really want to sell. Open houses are a waste of time. Your criminal records are on the Internet. And that a full stomach is the answer to most of what ails you. But whatever ails you, she “has had worse than that on her eyeball”. Other lessons include: Always keep the equivalent of six months salary in spare change in your car; don’t ask for money, ask to work; take care of veterans; be loyal; and, if you want to tell a secret in a public place, just whisper really loud. She loved God, the universe, angels, cardinals, two husbands, a few dogs, the guitar, piano, old movies, “li’l dabs” of this and that, bright red lipstick, colorful socks, the Queen of England, camping, vision boards, your mind’s eye, the lake, and hearing what you learned the past year on your birthday. And all the holidays, especially Christmas and wacky gifts. Lots and lots of wacky gifts. But if the photos on her phone are any indication, she mostly loved house repairs and grandchildren. Her silly poems and funny drawings may yet take over the art world. Her deviled eggs, pumpkin bread, chicken tetrazzini, booger pudding, chocolate delite, and Italian cream cake are certainly now on the menu in heaven. Jennifer had a beautiful, ever-present smile, big laugh, and loving spirit that lit up a room and that now lights up the sky and beyond forevermore. Umah will be sorely missed.
Jennifer is survived by her mother Jean Goodwin and her spouse Bill VanDall; son Ryan Rex; son Greg Rex; daughter Summer Rex and spouse Karinda Smith; son Steve Rex and spouse Nikki; sister Heidi Teague and spouse Mike; sister Deidre Duca and spouse Bill; sister Jill Holland and spouse Tracy; brother Casey Goodwin and spouse Leslie; and grandchildren Thomas Rex, Reade Rex, Katie Rex, Landon Rex and Adam Rex.
She was preceded in death by her father Bobby Goodwin; grandparents, Delbert and Wanita Good; and sister Valerie Goodwin.
