Jerald Warren Williams' Obituary
Jerald Warren Williams, 77, of Broken Arrow, OK, a former wrestling, coach, teacher, and school administrator in the Tulsa area, went to be with the Lord Thursday, March 10, 2016 in his home after a courageous battle with prostate cancer. He was born January 16, 1939 in Chickasha, OK to Rev. James Williams and Rev. Mary Allene Williams. He graduated from Will Rogers High School in 1957. He married Sandra Addington January 22, 1961 who went to Heaven in 2002. He graduated from Oklahoma State University in 1962 with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Education and Athletics. He wrestled for Oklahoma State University for 4 years on scholarship and made it to the semifinals of the Olympic Trials. He received a Master’s of Education from Northeastern State University and 60 hours of postgraduate work in School Administration and Counseling from the University of Tulsa. He started his teaching and coaching career as a wrestling, football, and track coach at Sand Springs Junior High school (1962-1965). He continued his coaching career at Broken Arrow (1965-1967) and Memorial High School (1967-1973). He served as the Assistant Principle at Mason High School (1973-1976) and Edison High School (1977-1980). He later served as High School Principle at Union Public Schools (1981-1985) and as the Assistant Superintendent for Personnel for Union High School (1985-1999). He retired in 1999 after 37 years in the education field. After retiring, he served one year as principle of the Lutheran School of Tulsa. He married Audrey Norby in 2005. He was an avid bicyclist until he was forced to quit in August of 2015 due to ill health. He liked to ride his bike and motorcycle, camp, fish, hunt, play golf, travel, and spend time with his family and friends. He is survived by his wife, Audrey, and three sons: Kent (Shari) Williams of Bixby, OK, Terry (Christy) Williams of Owasso, OK, Dan (Maranda) Williams of Celina, TX. Six grandchildren; Parker and Madison Williams, Alec (Jett) and Skylar Williams, Grant and Harrison Williams. Three Step sons: Todd (Kim) Norby Elk Point, SD, Jeff (Cara) Norby, Elk Point , SD, Troy (Jennifer) Norby, Ft. Lupton, CO. Fifteen Step grandchildren: Tory (Vanessa) Norby, Jadyn, Jacob, and Jaley Reed. Alex, Matthew, and Nikki Norby, Kira, Mikayla, and Gabby Norby. One great-granddaughter, Penny Norby. He was preceeded in death by his parents, Rev. James Williams and Rev. Mary Allene Williams, and his first wife Sandra Williams. Visitation will be 12:00 PM to 8:00 PM with family receiving friends from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Tuesday, March 15th, Floral Haven Funeral Home.Funeral Service will be 10:00 AM, Wednesday, March 16th, Floral Haven Funeral Home Chapel.
