Remembering my Father-In-Law: Martin Orr
I've known Martin for more than 55 years. I have always had great respect and admiration for him. Over the years I've come to know him on a personal basis.
Special things I remember:
Debra and I would meet him and Geneva once a week (sometimes twice a week) for lunch for the last 20 plus years. We would end up eating and mostly talking for 4 to 5 hours each time.
Many years back, all of us would get together and play cards for hours just about every weekend.
I took him for rides in my corvette. I always offered to let him drive, but I think he only took me up on it one time. He really enjoyed that. He liked sport cars and so did I. We always had a good time together.
He would call me occasionally to go with him on remodeling projects. I always enjoyed going with him and helping him.
I enjoyed going boating and fishing with him on several occasions.
Some things he would share with me in private over the years:
He told me many stories of when he was in the military.
He also told me some very funny stories of things that happened to him or his employees when he was out on some remodeling jobs.
He was a quiet person most of the time but he liked to talk a lot and tell me stories when we were together.
There are dozens of other positive things I could say, but I will just say that besides Martin being my father-in-law and a man that I truly respected, he was also a good friend. Over the years we enjoyed thousands of hours together talking and having fun.
He is truly missed.
