Jessie Pauline Haney's Obituary
Jessie “Pauline” Haney, 84 of Glenpool, Oklahoma passed from this life on Tuesday, August 21, 2018 in Sapulpa, Oklahoma. She was born July 11, 1934 in Leupp, Arizona, to the late Jesse Paul “JP” James and Elizabeth (Tecumseh) James.Pauline attended Will Rogers High School where she was a proud Rogers Ropers Majorette Baton Twirler. She attended Draughn’s Business College and moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico and worked for the Air Force doing secretarial work where she met her first husband Charles Sherrells, Sr. She later met the love of her life Woodrow Haney in 1973 and after 17 years finally married each other. She worked for Tulsa Indian Manpower, Oklahoma Tribal Assistance Program (OTAP), Cherokee Nation Welcome Center, and volunteered several years for Tulsa Indian Art Festival, Tulsa State Fair, Mayfest and traveled doing cultural presentations with Woodrow. She did storytelling, The Lord’s Prayer in sign language, and countless arts and crafts booths and helped create, with her husband, the Creek Language on tape with booklets as well as the Arts & Humanities in public school systems across the US. She was honored by AARP as the Outstanding Elder of the Year 2014.She is survived by her loving daughter Cheri, granddaughter Tricia (Fields) Alexander, grandsons HinhanSka Haney and Crow Haney. Four great-grandchildren: Serena & Jacob Todd and Ryan and Katie Alexander, one devoted brother Art James, countless aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, friends, neighbors and step-grandchildren she loved and often thought of. A prayer service will be held at 7pm on Thursday, August 23, 2018 at Glenpool Creek Indian Community Center at 13839 S. Casper Ave Glenpool, OK 74033. Burial will be private at Floral Haven Memorial Gardens in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. Public memorial service and lunch will be at Glenpool Creek Indian Community Center 13839 S. Casper Ave. Glenpool, OK 74033. She was Euchee/Creek and Choctaw, a member of Polecat Ceremonial Ground, her clan was Panther clan. Her Euchee name was EgowlA yu (Morning Star) and also a Jehovah’s Witness at the East Unit in Tulsa.A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 24, 2018 at Glenpool Creek Indian Community Center, 13839 South Casper Ave, Glenpool, OK 74033. Burial will be private at Floral Haven Memorial Gardens in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma.
