Jessie Mae Payne's Obituary
Our beloved sister and mother, Jessie Mae Payne, 77, of Tulsa, OK, passed into the arms of Jesus on August 7, 2025, with her daughters by her side. A memorial service to celebrate Jessie’s life will be held on Friday, August 15th at 11:30am at Immanuel Bible Church in Broken Arrow, OK. A graveside service will immediately follow the celebration where Mrs. Payne will be laid to rest. Jessie was born on July 24, 1948 in Bartlesville, OK and was the second of four children born to Jess and Grace (Harding) Ballard. She spent her childhood growing up on a small farm south of Bartlesville. She graduated from College High School in 1966 and became a telephone operator for Southwestern Bell. She remained with Southwestern Bell until the birth of her first daughter in July of 1974 when she decided to prioritize raising her family and welcomed her second daughter to the world four years later in November of 1978. A couple of years later, Jessie returned to school and earned both areal estate and broker’s license. On June 19, 1986, she married the love of her life, Edward (Ed) Payne. The next ten years werespent raising her daughters while she worked in retail and childcare to allow her more time with her family. After Ed’s retirement, the couple moved to Owasso where Jessie began a career as the Marketing Director for Baptist Village of Owasso. Following her retirement, she found joy in spending time with her family and friends and caring for her dog, Sophie. She always strived to make others happy and had a contagious smile and generous spirit. Throughout her life, she served as a wonderful example to her daughters and grandchildren, never missing a special event or moment in their lives. Jessie loved Jesus and had a servant’s heart. She will be greatly missed by those who were blessed to know her. Jessie is survived by her brother, Mickey Ballard and his wife Peggy of Dewey, OK; sister Connie Erwin of Owasso, OK; two daughters Tamara Shannon and her husband, William, of Broken Arrow, OK andKristina Crain and her husband, Brian, of Claremore, OK; and six grandchildren, Daniel, Matthew, Gracelyn, Tyler, Chloe and Kaitlyn. Jessie was preceded in death by her parents, Jess and Grace Ballard, her brother Eddie Ballard, and her beloved husband Edward Payne. Visitation will take place on Thursday, August 14th from 4 pm – 7 pm at Floral Haven in Broken Arrow. Funeral services will be held at 1130 am on Friday, August 15that Immanuel Bible Church in Broken Arrow, OK.
