Jessie Mae Starnes' Obituary
Jessie Mae Starnes, 92, passed away on June 30, 2024. She lived a long and happy life. She was born in Salisbury, Missouri on January 23, 1932, to Rosa Lee and Maurice Sanders. After graduating from high school, she moved to Kansas City, Missouri with a girlfriend. They worked at Hallmark Cards and loved the city life. She met Billy Starnes there at a USO club was he was in the Marines. They were married in 1952 and moved to Sand Springs. They had 3 children and had a very happy and active life.
Jessie and Bill were avid Square Dancers. Jessie also enjoyed gardening and oil painting.
Jessie worked at American Airlines, Sears and Roebuck, and at a tag agency.
After Bill retired they moved to Grand Lake where she enjoyed crappie fishing. She was a great fisherwoman, often catching more than Bill. She was a great cook and loved to fry fish. She really loved the lake life. In 2007 they moved to Broken Arrow, Oklahoma to be near family. She was married to Bill 61 years before he passed away in 2014.
She was preceded in death by her son Charles Rodney Starnes of Tulsa and husband, Charles Billy Starnes, and her daughter, Janice Sue Riley of Broken Arrow. She is survived by her daughter Debbie Lowe of Broken Arrow. She had 4 grandchildren Christy and Joe McGill of Bixby, Michelle and Troy Kitchel of Norman, Brad and Serena Lowe of Owasso, and Trisha and Aaron Kerr of Broken Arrow. She also had 9 grandchildren and one great-grandson. She is also survived by many other family members and friends.
Her final wishes were that there be no memorial services. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM, Wednesday, July 3rd, at Floral Haven Funeral Home.
