Jewel Austin, 89, of Sand Springs, Oklahoma, passed from this life on Monday, February 18, 2019, with her husband, Wayne, by her side. She was born January 2, 1930 in Drumright, Oklahoma.Jewel graduated from Central High School in Tulsa, Oklahoma in 1948. In 1949, Jewel married John Dow “JD” Whittington and together they had three children. JD and Jewel owned and operated an automated coin laundromat in Jenks, Oklahoma. Tragically, JD passed away in 1963 and Jewel moved the family to Sand Springs, where she worked as a customer service representative for PSO until her retirement. While working at PSO, she met Wayne Austin and the two were married on October 23, 1993.Jewel was preceded in death by her parents, John Wesley Cartwright and Gracie Delours Danley Cartwright; first husband John Dow Whittington; half-brothers Fred, Norm and Cletus Cartwright; brothers Melvin, Eugene, Lloyd and Neal Cartwright; and sisters Pauline Latta, Juanita Sivadon, and Carolyn Lowery.Jewel is survived by a loving family, which includes her husband Wayne, of 25 years, her son Lonnie and daughter-in-law Nancy Whittington, of Grove, Oklahoma; son Ken and daughter-in-law Rita Whittington of Tulsa, Oklahoma; and her daughter Sheila and son-in-law Craig Mercy of Lake Charles, Louisiana; along with her husband’s children Dub and Teresea Austin of Adair, OK; Keith and Pamela Austin of Verdigris, OK; Alan and Shelli Austin of Collinsville, OK; and Dee Ann McHenry of Tulsa, OK.Grandchildren: Traci and Aaron Fieker, Brook and Chance Greer, Brad Whittington, Brittany and Derec Norman, Kendrick Whittington, Meaghan Mercy, Zachary Mercy, Eric Austin and Stephanie and Patrick Page, Matt and Kaitlin Austin, Alyssa and Max Hamilton, A.J. and Alex Austin, Jake McHenry, and Jessica and Jeremy Samaroo.Great grand-children: Tate, Beau and Madelyn Greer, Ethan and Bella Whittington, Claire, Olivia and Eli Fieker, Liam and Lexi Norman, Jayden and Hendrix Austin, Lillian Page, Reed and Tate Samaroo and Candace Austin.Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, February 22, 2019 at Floral Haven Funeral Home in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma.Services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 23 at the Floral Haven Chapel.
