Jewell Juanita Scism's Obituary
Jewel Juanita Scism, age 92 of Sapulpa, Oklahoma, began her new life in paradise on April 29th, 2010 at 8:13 AM after a week-long battle at St. John’s Hospital in Tulsa of pneumonia and an extended period illness of Alzheimer’s. Juanita was born the second of four children in Yale, Oklahoma to Ina and Vernon Jones on July 1st, 1917. She is preceded in death by her mother and father and her oldest brother, Howard Jones, from Shawnee, Oklahoma. Juanita grew up in Seminole, Oklahoma where she later met Lee Scism on a double date with his best friend. They were eventually married in Maud, Oklahoma on July 26th, 1947, and were married for 62 years. Juanita worked at several retail and manufacturing places during her lifetime but her latter employment was at Enterprise School Photos and Zebco Manufacturing, in addition to being a full-time homemaker and mother. Her hobbies included her flowers and magnolia tree, in addition to watching birds. Her favorites were hummingbirds, bluebirds, cardinals, and robins. She had a cedar tree where the same robins came back every year to nurse their young. Juanita also enjoyed baseball where the St. Louis Cardinals was her favorite team; she was excited when her Cardinals went to the World Series four years ago and won. She was also Ted and Tom’s number one baseball fan. She especially enjoyed crocheting and made afghans for several family members. Juanita also enjoyed playing table and board games but her favorites were dominoes and marbles. Juanita grew up attending the Church of Christ all her life and was a member here at the Sand Springs Church of Christ at the time of her death. She was a Sunday and Vacation Bible School teacher, prepared food for church members, and decorated the greenery around the baptistry that you see today. Funeral services for Juanita will be held Monday, May 3, 2010 at the Sand Springs Church of Christ. Pastor Sidney Ellis will officiate. Burial will follow immediately at the Woodland Cemetery in Sand Springs.Survived By: Survivors are Juanita’s husband, Lee Scism, sons Ted and Tom Scism and their spouses Cheryl and Karen of Sand Springs, Oklahoma, one younger sister, Mary Wanda Brock from Cassville, Missouri and younger brother Clyde M. Jones of Muskogee, Oklahoma, three grandchildren, Stephany Ward and her husband James, Jared Scism, and Rebekah Scism and her fiance’ Zach of Sand Springs, Oklahoma. Juanita also had two great-grand children, Aleecia and Ashlee Howard, both of Sand Springs.
