Jim L. Moon's Obituary
Jim Lee Moon, 88, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 15, 2022, at Brookdale Assisted Living, Tulsa, OK. He was born in Fort Smith, Arkansas on September 7, 1934 to James Raymond Moon and Helen Louis Sprouse (Moon) Cottingham. He was a 1952 graduate of Fort Smith High School. He first met Rosie Lee Conley, as students, at Trusty Elementary, in Fort Smith, Arkansas. They became “sweethearts” during their teenage years and were married on July 2, 1954, in Compton, CA, near where Jim was stationed in the US Navy.
Jim studied Electronics while he served in the US Navy and used that valuable education throughout his career – to get better jobs early on and eventually to start his own successful businesses, both as a sole owner of JL Moon & Co and Basic Systems, and with his two brothers, Herman & Don at Time Mark Corporation, an industrial electronics manufacturer, which is still in operation and celebrates its 50th Anniversary this year.
Jim loved country music and taught himself to play both piano and guitar, which he continued to play up until the last few weeks of his life. Some of his favorite musicians were George Jones, Chet Atkins, Vince Gill and Leon Russell. At age 73, he recorded 2 CD’s of favorite songs, playing all instruments, including vocals. He dedicated them to his lifelong friends and family and loved to share them with everyone.
In the early 1980’s, Jim received his pilot license and purchased his own plane. The years he spent flying were some of his favorite times. He and Rosie had many exciting and fun adventures in his Cessna, and he took 1st place in spot landing at Harvey Young Airport.
Jim is survived by his daughters, Karen Moon-Tinker, Barbara Moon and Judi Moon-Dittus; sons-in-law, Larry Tinker and Jim Dittus; granddaughters, Natalie Howard and husband, Mike, Jade Dittus, Emily Dittus, Luci Dittus; grandson, Eli Dittus; great-grandsons, Aiden Howard and Noah Howard; and many beloved nieces, nephews and extended family. We must also mention our immense gratitude to Carol Ann Wheeler, the wonderful staff of Brookdale Assisted Living, Traditions Hospice and Cornerstone Caregiving. They were all so caring and helpful during this difficult journey.
