Jim Edward Witter's Obituary
James (Jim) Edward Witter, aged 89 of Broken Arrow, OK, died April 12, 2023 after a long and
blessed life. He claims that he had spotted Barb across the room at a Mt. Vernon High School
dance and claimed right then and there that one day she would be his wife. On August 14,
1955 they made that promise a reality. Jim had been home from doing his tour of duty in the
Army by just ten days when he picked Barb up from her college graduation on August 13 and
headed for Central Christian Church in Mt. Vernon, Il on August 14, 1955. They spent 64 very.
happy years together along with daughter, Terri Witter, son and daughter-in-law Tony and
Connie Witter, and one adopted daughter Patty Witter Son, deceased. Jim and Barb are
grandparents to Justin (Jessica) Witter. Jared (Lauren) Witter, Kristen (Hugh) Westhoff and
Victoria (David) Dawson. There are also seven grandchildren with one more along the way. Jim
was born to James Eulis Witter and Sadie Evelyn Mayer Witter on May 1, 1933. He was also
brother to Mary Louise Witter Denham.
Originally Barb and Jim had promised to allow the government to discharge Jim from the Army
and to let Barb pick up her diploma from U of I. They just barely made it. Jim started working
for F. Meyer & Brother in 1960, a furnace supplier. He still used his knowledge about furnaces,
ductwork, etc just in a different way. He became known as the guru of furnaces, "if Witter can't
fix it, it can’t be fixed.” A few years later, he bought shares of stock to Sheet Metal Products
and continued to call on customers and help them solve their many problems.
Jim and Barb loved to travel and each year they would help to choose a tour guide and
schedule a wonderful tour somewhere for their customers to choose from. They were fantastic
tours and a sweeter couple to host making lots of wonderful memories.
Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 on Thursday, April 20 and funeral will be 3:00 on Friday, April
21 at Floral Haven Cemetery, 6500 S. 129th E. Avenue, Broken Arrow, OK 74012.
Honorary Pall Bearers include Hugh Westhoff, Jared Witter, Justin Witter and David Dawson.
