Joan Ruth Cheek's Obituary
Joan Ruth Lederer Cheek was born April 1, 1932, daughter of George and Angie Faubion Lederer in Saline County, Kansas. The family moved to Waterville, Kansas in 1934. She attended Harbaugh Country School until third grade, then attended Waterville public grade school and high school her freshman year. Then the family moved to Linn, Kansas. She attended Linn High School graduating in 1949. Joan attended Brown-Mackie Business College in Salina, Kansas. Joan met her husband Bill Cheek in Salina where they married April 13, 1952. They moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma in 1954. To this union, two children, Theresa and Dennis completed their family. Joan was a stay at home mom until the children were grown. She worked 30 years in the banking business at Tulsa First National Bank and F.M. Bank, retiring in 2003. Joan was an accomplished musician, dancer and seamstress. Joan was preceded in passing by her husband Bill Cheek; her parents George and Angie Faubion Lederer; brothers Harold and John Lederer; sister Helen Moore; brothers in-law Neil McGregor; Carroll Hammond and James Moore. Survivors include special friend Bruce Alsup of Kiefer, Oklahoma; sisters Betty Jane Hammond of Gold Canyon, Arizona and Mildred McGregor of Wichita, Kansas; sisters in-law Helen M Lederer of Rio Rancho, New Mexico and Joan E. Lederer of Truth or Consequences; children Teresa and husband Farrell Alton of Catoosa, Oklahoma; Dennis and wife Dani Cheek of Muskogee, Oklahoma; grandsons Travis and wife Katie Alton of Little Rock, Arkansas; Eric and wife Brooke Alton of Tulsa, Oklahoma; grandchildren Brandi; Bayli; Kayla and twins Jenson and Ally Ann and step granddaughters Samantha and Torie.
