Joan Johnson's Obituary
Joan Johnson, 92 of Tulsa, Oklahoma went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, November 3, 2021. Joan was born June 7, 1929 in Sapulpa, Oklahoma. She married the love of her life, Wallace Johnson on May 7, 1948 and they shared 71 wonderful years together before his passing in 2019.
Joan is survived by three daughters, Brenda Douglas of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Rita McMillan and her husband Jimmie of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma and Gail Selvidge and her husband Jeff of Mounds, Oklahoma; one sister, Doretta Patrick and her husband Ron of Ardmore, Oklahoma; six grandchildren, Paige Daniel and her husband Scott, Brian Douglas and his wife Aimee, Brandon Douglas and his wife Lindsey, Nathan Selvidge and his wife Katie, Meagan Bogan and her husband Bud and Camden Selvidge and his wife Courtney; eight great-grandchildren, Isla, Jake, Spencer, Fisher, Alex, Hadley, Opal, and Johnnie Kay; and many friends and extended family members. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Wallace Johnson; a son, Glenn Johnson; two sisters; and a son-in-law Bill Douglas.
Joan dedicated her life to raising four children and managing a busy household while Wallace’s job required weekly travel. Joan stayed busy taking her kids to their activities and making sure they were in church. She faithfully read her Bible and devotional daily throughout her life.
Joan loved entertaining, gardening, bird watching, and was active in Bixby Garden Club, bridge club and their monthly Bunco group. Fellowship at Bixby First United Methodist Church and spending time with family and friends were very important to Joan.
Joan was a member of the Muskogee Creek Nation and was very proud of her Indian heritage. She was a fabulous cook and was famous for her cherry pies, divinity, and swiss steak. Joan was a wonderful wife and mother and will be missed every day until we meet again.
Joan was so blessed to have had such an amazing team from A-Vow hospice provide her endless care during these Covid times.
