Joe E. Bennett's Obituary
Joe Edgar Bennett Joe was born on July 11, 1934 in Cleveland, Oklahoma to Lon Donald Bennett and Jessie Alberta (Boggs) Bennett. He passed away at home in Broken Arrow on Wednesday, August 9, 2017. Joe grew up and attended school in Tulsa, Oklahoma. His first job was delivering papers and his sister Jean would sometimes help so he didn’t have to go alone. He entered the Navy in 1951 and served 8 years on the U.S.S. Yancy along with his brother, R.L. and brother- in-laws, Ray and Fray Foster before being honorably discharged in 1959. While on the ship, he began corresponding with Juanita Foster and they married on December 23, 1953 in Oakland, California where they lived for several years before moving to Tulsa, OK in 1966. Tulsa is where they made their home, raised their three children and Joe worked as a car salesman for nearly 30 years. After his retirement, him and Juanita moved to Salina, OK where they owned and operated the Dogwood Marina for many years. Joe loved his family and spending time with them, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He loved to trotline fish and go out on the boat with his kids and grandkids. In 1989, he and Juanita became members of the Lakeview Baptist Church in Salina, OK. After the passing of Juanita, Joe moved back to Tulsa where he worked at the Z66 Auto Auction to occupy his time.Joe survived by his daughter, Anita Jo Johnson and Husband Monty of Terlton, OK; two sons, Donnie Bennett and his wife Tammy of Inola, OK and Dean Bennett and wife Patti of Broken Arrow, OK; six grandchildren, Melissa Waters and husband Jeff, Kendall Joe Johnson and wife Lydia, Stephanie Bennett and Eric Loebeck, Natalie Bennett, Ryan Bennett and Brad Bennett; twelve great grandchildren, Morgan, Savannah and Sahara Ryan, Ayden Wyatt and Cade David Joe Johnson, Colton, Jenni, April and Aidan Waters, Samantha Law and husband Wyatt, Sarah Perkins and husband Matt and Shantel Kelly; Eight great grandchildren and one on the way; one brother, Jim Bennett and wife Eleanore, Sister, Jean Foster and husband Ray, and sister, Sharon Evans. He was preceded in death by his wife Juanita; parents, Lon and Jessie Bennett and brother, R.L. Bennett. Pallbearers will be Jeff Waters, Kendall Johnson, Wyatt Johnson, Brad Bennett, Ryan Bennett, and Eric Leobeck. Honorary Pallbearers will be Paul Herron, and Steve Ingram.
