Joe Carl Eastwood's Obituary
Joe C. Eastwood, 81, from the Stroud and Drumright area, passed away February 24, 2015 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Joe was one of 4 children, born August 8, 1934, to Hattie Smith. He was an avid horseman and devoted father. Growing up in southern Oklahoma and Northern Texas, he enjoyed staying with his great grandfather and used to tell stories of farming and learning to play checkers and dominoes with his great grandfather. Joe broke his back in 1964 and became a parapalegic, thus ending his career as a jockey. However, Joe refused to give up his love of horses or to allow being handicapped to define what he could or could not do. He became a machine operator until he retired and then pursued his dreams of training race horses. Joe was preceded in death by his mother Hattie Smith, sisters Lilly Faye and Lillian Ruth, brother Gene and granddaughter Angela Whitehouse. He is survived by daughters Tresa Jo Vanderburg, Cathy Eastwood-Ross and Mischa L. Nicholas, sons Joe Carl (Buddy) Eastwood and Jimmy Eastwood, 14 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. The immediate family will be having a Private Memorial at a later date.
