John W. Alfrey's Obituary
John William Alfrey, age 92, passed away on August 20, 2013. Born August 9, 1921, he was precededin death by his wife of 50 years, Gladys Adams Alfrey, and is survived by his wife of three years, Bertie Rodgers Alfrey. John was father to Jane Ingram,Cheryl Waldeck and Samuel Alfrey. He was grandfather to Robby and Michael, Matt and Libby, Sammy and John Reed. John served in the US Army during World War II, earning the Bronze Star for service in the Battle of Luzon. A mechanical contractor, he was the proprietor of J-Way, Inc. in Logansport , Indiana for over 30 years, ending his career in Indianapolis before retiring to Tulsa in 2006. John was an avid golfer, competing on championship courses across America throughout his life and enjoying the game well into his 80s. He was a member of The Logansport Country Club, Tippecanoe of Monticello, and The Brownsburg Country Club. John Alfrey was a dutiful son and brother, loving husband, fine friend, and cherished father throughout his long life. His generous spirit and zest for living brought joy and laughter to family and friends, who now rest assured he has left this world a better place because of his life well-lived. A memorial service is planned for 2:00 pm, Friday, August 23rd, at Saint John’s Episcopal Church, 4200 South Atlanta Place in Tulsa. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Rivercross Hospice (918) 622-9281.
