John L. Benso's Obituary
John Leo Benso passed away peacefully with his daughter, Colleen and beloved Pomeranian “Ginger” by his side. He will be deeply missed. John was born April 11, 1921 the son of Carl and Rose Benso in Capaldo, Kansas. John was a football and track star graduating from Columbus High School. He married his sweetheart Charlotte Kennedy Nov. 11, 1941 at St. Bridget Church Scannon, Kansas. They had two daughters. They celebrated 54 years of marriage before her passing. He was a pipefitter by trade, a member of the Plumbers/Pipefitters Union working on power houses throughout the mid-west. He retired from Kansas Army Ammunition Plant in 1986. An avid sportsman, fishing was his favorite, catching the big ones, anything concerning the home or automobile he could fix it. He had a green thumb for gardening and was a really good Italian Cook. John lived his entire life in Roseland, Kansas before moving to Broken Arrow in 1986 to be near his grandson. They did everything together. He was a great role model. Being in his home and having his family there, especially his great granddaughters was his greatest joy. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Charlotte and daughter, Carolyn Benso. He is survived by his daughter, Colleen Benso of Broken Arrow, OK; grandson, Dr. Shawn Benso and wife, Nicole; great granddaughters, Mackenzie and Bella Benso, all of Glendale, AZ. Memorial donations may be made in John L. Benso’s name to Clarehouse, 7617 S. Mingo Rd. Tulsa, OK 74133. Visitation will be 4:00-8:00 PM Wednesday, March 5, 2014 at Floral Haven Funeral Home. A Rosary will be held prior to the service at 11:00 AM Thursday, March 6, 2014 at Church of St. Benedict with a Funeral Mass following at 11:30 AM.
