I'm so very, very sorry to hear of John's passing. He was such a good man and one of my few colleagues in ministry who was in no way pretentious, pompous or self-absorbed. He was truly a " man for others, " and a devoted follower of Jesus Christ. In 2009, I spoke of him to the entire seminary community. I said: " Every evening of my middler year in seminary, I would sit beneath a huge live oak tree with the the likes of Tom Currie, Fred Morgan and John Blue as together we sipped really bad beer and solved all the world's problems." Furthermore, I proclaimed: "Never before in the history of Austin Seminary has so much wisdom surrounded one live oak tree." The audience laughed, but I was half serious.John Blue was the first truly authentic man I ever met. And as far as I am concerned, he set the standard for what it meant to be real. This world will miss him as will I.—–Bob Lively, '73
