John Julian Brophy's Obituary
John Julian Brophy loving husband, father, grandfather and brother passed away Thursday, April 21, 2011 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Born on his mother's birthday, February 23, 1927 in Morris, Illinois to Charles J. and Julia E. Brophy. The family moved to Des Moines, Iowa where John attended Dowling High School. John joined the Navy and served in WWII with the joint communications in the mountains on Guam. Graduated Drake University in 1949. He married his wife of 60 years, in 1950, Gretchen, whom he met on a blind date. John and Gretchen enjoyed traveling, trips to Branson and spending time with family and especially their grandchildren. John retired as the owner of Blind Ambitions in 2010. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Survived by his wife, Gretchen and their seven children. Bob Brophy and his wife Sherri and their daughters, Meagan and Kelly; John L. Brophy and his wife, Laura and their sons Patrick and Andy; Peggy McKnight and her husband Alton, and her children Troy and Gretchen; David Brophy; Tom Brophy and his wife, Kym and their daughters Amelia and Olivia; Chris Brophy; Jenny Herman and her husband Dean and their sons Luke, Joshua and Jacob and four great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Mary Olson and her husband Vern. He is preceded in death by his parents, Charles J. and Julia E. Brophy; his brother, Edward E. Brophy; his sister, Joanne I. Brophy; and grandson, Michael L. Brophy.
