John "Verlin" Embry's Obituary
John “Verlin” Embry was born September 7, 1935 in Arkansas and passed away March 13, 2015 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Verlin was one of eleven children born to John and Julia Embry. Verlin loved to be outdoors. Some of his favorite past times were gardening, going to the lake and going on cruises. He had a big garden every yearand loved trying new varieties of vegetables and gardening techniques. Many memories were made with family and friends on the lake. Verlin enjoyed fishing, riding on the pontoon, and most of all laughing, joking, and visiting with his family and friends. Verlin had taken many cruises and was always up for traveling, new adventures and fun! Verlin also enjoyed cooking. He owned several cookbooks and was always trying out new recipes, looking for heirloom recipes, and learning the history behind the foods and recipes. He was famous for his Turducken, his hot cinnamon candy, tabouli, and his fabulous breakfasts! Verlin was a fierce competitor, he loved playing games and cards with his family and friends. This fierceness was also seen in his inquisitive nature. He loved learning, researching, and analyzing most everything he came across; from Bible topics, food origins, systems of nature and more! He was relentless in his desire for knowledge. He had a love for life and brought much joy to the lives of all those he met. He will be greatly missed. Verlin is preceded in passing by his spouse Shirley Embry; parents John and Julia Embry and seven siblings. Verlin is survived by his daughters Sonya Embry and Tirsa Renee Embry; sister Mildred Johnson; brother Rex Embry and his wife Helen; brother Afton Embry and his wife Mary; mother-in-law Virgie Ingram and numerous nephews, nieces , and family members and friends. There will be a visitation Monday, March 16, 2015 from 5-7p.m. at Floral Haven Funeral Home Funeral service will be Tuesday, March 17, 2015 at 12:30 P.M. at Floral Haven Funeral Home Chapel. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to American Breast Cancer Foundation
