John Adam Hughes, age 70, of Tulsa, passed away peacefully on October 5, 2025, in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
John was born on August 2, 1955, in Tulsa, to Jim and Helen Hughes. He grew up in a close-knit family and graduated from Webster High School. On November 16, 1976, John married the love of his life, Maureen Linton Hughes, in Tulsa. Together they built a home rooted in faith, family, and community.
Throughout his career, John worked with multiple lumber and building materials suppliers, where he was respected for his hard work, knowledge, and ability to build lasting relationships. Colleagues knew him as dependable and trustworthy, while friends and family knew him as someone who always showed up when needed.
John enjoyed a wide range of activities, but he was especially passionate about softball and fishing. He spent countless hours on the ball field, both as a player and a fan, and loved the quiet peace of casting a line on the water. Beyond his hobbies, John was a caregiver to many friends and family members, a role he took on with humility and devotion. His faith was a guiding light in his life, and he remained an active member of his Baptist church.
John will be remembered for his warm smile, humor, and generosity of spirit. He had a gift for making people feel welcome and cared for, and he carried himself with quiet strength. On most weekends John could often be found on the back porch of his house peacefully reflecting and listening to gospel music or extending his warmth and generosity to friends and family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Helen Hughes, and his sister, Deborah Hughes, his sister-in-law Brenda Burton and Susan Hughes. He is survived by his wife, Maureen Hughes; his sons, Bryan Hughes and Brett Hughes; his daughter-in-law, Amanda Hughes, oldest brother Elmer Burton, sister-in-law Lola Burton, his nephew Jim Ray Burton and Terry Burton, his brother Dorvel Burton, his niece Janet Derichsweiler, his nephew Daren Burton, his brother Jim Hughes, sister-in-law Betsy Hughes, his nieces Deidre Hughes and Jenny Hughes, his nephew Dustin Hughes, his brother Robert Hughes, his niece Robin Hughes, his nephews Robert Hughes Jr, Christopher Hughes, and Mathew Hughes. His family and many friends will cherish his memory.
A viewing will take place the day prior to the service from 3:00 to 6:00 PM on Friday, October 10, 2025. The funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, October 11, 2025, at Newspring Family Church followed by a reception where family and friends may gather to share memories and fellowship.

John’s life was guided by faith, love, and service to others. He leaves behind a deep and wide legacy of kindness and generosity that will continue to inspire all who knew him.
