Good Guy
Dear Friends..Your thoughts for John are beautiful. I am touched by your kindness. Please know that I am well, loved and moving forward. If I could ask one thing it would be for each of you to remember John with gladness not the sadness of his passing. John was a man full of joy and compassion. He embraced life even up until his last moments. He touched those who knew him in ways unimaginable. Our time together was truly a gift from God to both of us.
Lit a candle in memory of John Lonnie King
Our relationship goes back many, many years. Although we grew up only about 15 miles apart, it was not until our Freshman year at Texas Tech that John and I met and became best friends. For three and a half years we were roommates and shared many adventures, both academic and otherwise, some of which are probably best unmentioned. Even in his college days, he was a dedicated Methodist and active in the campus church community. Just this past summer, we were thrilled by a visit from John and his wonderful new bride, Rita. We send our most sincere condolences to Rita as well as Joanie, John Jr, and Drucilla; he will be missed by all who knew him.Harold & Nita Duke
Dear Rita,I know that words are inadequate at a time like this but I wanted you to know how very sorry I am for your loss. The loss of a spouse is a tragic event and I know the pain and suffering you are experiencing. It is times like this that our faith is put to the test. We know that we must accept his passing and give thanks for the wonderful life he lived. As sad as it will be, you will always have the memory of him to hold in your heart. The Bible reminds us that "Blessed are those that mourn for they shall be comforted." I pray that this will be especially true for you as you mourn your loss.I pray that God will give you the strength to see you through this sad and difficult time. My thoughts and prayers will be with you and your familyIn Faith & Sympathy, Norma Wagner

I was shocked and sad to learn of John's passing. He was a larger than life contributor to the Linneaus Teaching Garden. I will miss his smile, gruff voice, and teasing. He was loved by many.
