John L Moore's Obituary
John Leroy Moore, 95, of Tulsa, OK, passed away Aug 18, 2023. John was born November 2, 1927, in Grove, OK to Alpha James Moore and Gertrude Inez Graham Moore, the second of three children, joining brother Wayland Walter Moore and, later, sister Vera Faye Moore Marshall.
John was a proud World War II U. S. Navy veteran. He joined the U. S. Navy at the age of 17 at the rank of S1C and served as bugler aboard the USS Dobbin, a tender ship servicing destroyers in the Pacific. John proudly wore hats and shirts with WWII and Navy emblems.
John married the love of his life, Charmagne LaUna Howell, in Liberal, KS on September 4, 1955. Last year they celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary.
He worked for many years in the credit industry and retired from W. R. Grace in 1991.
John loved music and movies. He had natural musical talent, played multiple instruments by ear, and never received a music lesson. He played the trombone in high school and all his life played hymns and 1940s-era songs on the piano. He loved Big Band Music. John also was a movie buff who enjoyed the classics, westerns, and WWII-era movies. As a young man, he managed the local movie theatre in Carthage, MO. He always had a story to share about his childhood, his siblings, meeting Charmagne, and his adventures and misadventures with extended family. John was a member of Sandusky Avenue Christian Church in Tulsa; he was passionate about his faith in God and cherishing his church family and friends.
John is survived by his wife Charmagne; son James Moore; daughter Dana Moore Gray; daughter Dawn Rene Moore (Mark) McCauley; grandchildren Steven (Kylie) Gray, Conner (Jennifer) Gray, and Katie McCauley; great grandchildren Gauge, Bailey, Keaton, Carter, and Parker; sister Vera Marshall; sister in law Kay Cox; and many nieces and nephews.
John leaves a legacy of faith, family, love, and music.

Viewing will be held Thursday, August 24, 2023 from 12-7 PM. No family will be present at that time.
Funeral service will be held Friday, August 25, 2023 at 10:00 AM at Floral Haven Funeral Home. Interment will follow after at Floral Haven Memorial Gardens - Veterans Extension II.
