The Reverend John C. Polk Sr, 80, passed away Tuesday, December 15, 2009 in Tulsa, OKlahoma. He is survived by his wife Dorothy E. (Moeller); sons John C. Jr, Stephen H, and Michael E, and daughter Deborah Greubel. Daughters-in- Law: Deborah A (Walker) Polk, Lori A (Ayers) Polk, and Kimberly J (Hicks) Polk (Deceased). Grandchildren: Stephanie M Roberson, Mark Polk, Angela Polk, Melissa Kirtley, Katherine Becker, Joshua Polk, Jason Polk, Sunny Casteel. Great- Grandchildren: Dylan Polk, Maeghen Roberson,Isaiah Polk, Olivia Casteel, Keiton Kirtley, Edwin Polk and Miranda Polk. Born in 1928 in Baltimore, MD, he married Dorothy in 1952 after serving in the United States Army as a Chaplin’s Assistant with the 11th Airborne Division, Fort Campbell, KY from 1948 to 1951. It was during his military career that he became interested in joining the ministry. Pastor Polk served the Missouri Synod Lutheran Church for 50 years with many different congregations. He began his ministry by graduating from Concordia Seminary in Springfield, IL. He was then called to serve churches in Burlingtion, NC, Lynchburg, VA, Cumberland,MD, and High Point, NC. The family moved to Tulsa in 1970 where Pastor Polk attended a Chaplaincy Training Program at Hillcrest Medical Center and in 1972 became a Staff Chaplain there. After leaving Hillcrest, he served at vacancy Pastor for many congregations in Northeastern Oklahoma District ending his life of service as Visitation Pastor for Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Tulsa. He was an avid outdoorsman enjoying hunting, fishing and camping with friends and family. Visitation will be held at Floral Haven 6500 S. 129th East Avenue, Broken Arrow , OK Thursday 1 p.m. – 9 p.m. and Friday 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. – 9 p.m. The funeral will be Saturday December 19th at 10 a.m. at the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd 8730 E. Skelly Dr. Tulsa. Graveside Services following at Floral Haven Cemetery. Reception after the Graveside Service will be at the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd 8730 E. Skelly Dr. Tulsa. In lieu of flowers the family has requested donations be made in his memory to the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd and/or Freedom Hospice. Floral Haven, 252-2518.Survived By: his wife Dorothy E.
