John Douglas Robison's Obituary
John Douglas Robison, 80, widowed, beloved father, brother, grandfather and great grand pawpaw, departed from this life, most unexpectedly on Tuesday, December 26th, 2017. He is preceded in death by his wife, the love of his life for 49 years of marriage; Carol June Robison; their son, Mark John Robison; his parents, Otis and Beula Robison; brothers, Ronald and Gary Robison. John is survived by his daughter, Colette Jean Coursey and her husband, Leroy Coursey Jr., Tulsa, Ok; 2 grand-children Garrett and Gage Coursey and 6 great grand-children. Plus numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family members and an immense number of lifelong friends and associates. John was born May 31, 1937 in Tulsa, Ok, graduated from Central High School in 1956 where he took vocational auto mechanics and became an absolute car fanatic for life. While in High School, he became a member of the Tulsa Timing Association and was recently honored as a Charter Member in 2012. He has been featured several times in Hot Rod Magazines and publications gaining him much local and national recognition among many private car owners, enthusiasts and hobbyists around the world. John was the owner of ToyoSport, Ltd, servicing Tulsa for over 57 years, specializing in Toyota repair over the past 30 years, yet his passion for street rods kept him busy upon retirement. Former President and active member of Early Rods of Tulsa, celebrated their 50th anniversary in September, along with a 30 yr. membership to the NRSA, the SCCA, and Rod & Custom Association, John took great pride in the many street rods he had built over the years. His last project took him over 3 years, just recently completing it with the unending help of his son-in-law Leroy…., he mustered up another masterpiece of craftsmanship one last time; a 32 Ford, 3-Window Coupe beauty, of course, Viper Red. A man with so much talent, unwavering perfectionism, a remarkable eye for original detail, master craftsmanship and infinite library of knowledge, John is a true legend by his own makings that will live on in our hearts and our minds, however tremendously missed by his family, friends, and car buddies. A Memorial Service will be held Tuesday, January 9th, 2018 at 12:30pm at Floral Haven Chapel, Broken Arrow, OK. There will be a Celebration of Life immediately following the service at the Floral Haven Family Center from 1:30-3:30.
