Johnna Jane Alexander's Obituary
Johnna Jane Alexander, 64 years old, of El Lago, Texas, passed away peacefully on October 21st, 2024, surrounded by her loved ones. She was born on August 31st, 1960, in Hays, Kansas to Roberta Lee Martin and Johnny Pfiefer.
From a young age, Johnna played the drums in several Blues bands, before moving to a second career in education with Baltimore County Public Schools, starting as a science teacher and quickly working her way up to Assistant Principal.
Johnna was known for her passion in music, education, and family. She earned a Bachelor of Science in General Science from Fort Hays State University and a Master’s Degree in Education Leadership from Towson University. She was in the process of completing her doctorate in Urban Education Leadership at Morgan State University, building a dissertation focused on curricula catered to students with different learning styles. Johnna received recognition for Stellar Educator in the STEM Content Areas from the Black Engineer Annual Award in Baltimore, Maryland in September 2007 and February 2009, and the Marion Bowers Fellowship Award in August 2005 from the National Aquarium of Baltimore. Johnna cared deeply for children who were underprivileged, and she pioneered for equality in education with her master’s and doctoral work.
After the birth of her granddaughter, Johnna moved from Maryland to Texas to be close to her daughter and granddaughter. Later in life, Johnna’s main passion was the love for her family, whom she preferred to be with as much as possible.
Johnna is survived by her daughter, Mercury Clark, granddaughter, Zella Clark, son-and-law, Gregory Clark, sister, Garnetta Glissman, brother, Todd Martin, sister-and-law, Jeannine Brumley, and step-father, Frank Hieronymus. Johnna was preceded in death by her mother, Roberta Lee Martin, father, Johnny Pfiefer, step-father, Vernon Martin, and partner, Mary Pat Hughes.
Johnna will be remembered by all who knew her as spunky, quick-witted, talented, intelligent, and most of all, loving. She will be forever missed by all who had the privilege of knowing and loving her.
A Celebration of Life Memorial Service to honor Johnna will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, November 16, 2024, at Floral Haven Funeral Home Chapel, 6500 S 129th E Ave, Broken Arrow, OK, 74012, with Pastor James Lacey officiating.
Anyone wishing to send flowers for the service may do so by calling Floral Designs by Floral Haven at (918) 459-1525. Independent florists may deliver flowers directly to Floral Haven Funeral Home by 9:00 AM on Saturday, November 16, 2024, for them to be set out and properly displayed for Johnna's services in a timely manner.
Once the chapel service concludes, there will be an inurnment at 11:00 AM, where Johnna's urn will be placed in a cremation bench at Floral Haven Memorial Gardens in the Garden of Remembrance for anyone wishing to attend the graveside committal. A reception will follow at Renaissance Tulsa Hotel & Convention Center, located at: 6808 S 107th E Ave, Tulsa, OK 74133.
