Johnnie Rockefeller's Obituary
Johnnie was born April 27, 1956 in Siloam Springs, AR and died peacefully on June 15, 2021 at home in Broken Arrow, OK after a courageous battle with cancer. She is survived by her husband of 44 years, Harry Rockefeller; three sons, Jeremy, Toby, Timothy; brother, Darrell Gwartney; mother, Maxine Gwartney; and 8 grandchildren. Johnnie was preceded in death by her father, John Gwartney. Johnnie obtained a bachelor’s degree in biology from Oral Roberts University where she also met her husband. In her younger years, Johnnie loved athletics and enjoyed reminding Harry that he choked in the finals of intramural co-rec racquetball. She had a passion for music and played trumpet and French horn. Later, while raising 3 boys, Johnnie earned an Early Childhood Education degree from North Eastern State University and taught Kindergarten at Broken Arrow Public Schools for 15 years. After retirement, Johnnie loved spending time with her family, especially the grandchildren. Throughout her life, Johnnie was an active member of the church teaching Sunday school for over 40 years, playing French horn in the orchestra, and singing in the choir. Johnnie was a beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, teacher, and grandmother and will be honored at Arrow Heights Baptist Church on Friday, June 18, 2021 at 4:00pm.
