In Loving Memory of Johnny Lloyd Purdom
Johnny Lloyd Purdom, 76 of Coweta, Oklahoma, departed this world on Tuesday, January 23, 2024 surrounded by his loving family at his residence. He was born in Checotah, Oklahoma on September 16, 1947, to Ray and Elnora (Hill) Purdom.
Johnny was drafted and served in the Army from 1967 to 1969. He was a Vietnam Veteran and received the Bronze Service Star medal, the National Defense Service Medal and the Republic of Vietnam campaign medal while serving. Johnny graduated from Coweta, Oklahoma and completed some college.
Johnny loved to rebuild old cars, go to car shows, and piddle around in his garage. One of his great attributes was how he could always figure out ways to do things easier or with the least amount of effort, and he could fix anything. He was a great friend to all; he would help anyone at any time.
In his younger years, Johnny was the life of the party and loved to dance. He also loved riding motorcycles with his wife, Nita and friends Jimmy and Debbie. Going to ride three wheelers and odyssey with his kids Tammy and Tina, wife Nita and friends Jimmy, Debbie and Anthony. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Johnny enjoyed going to church and learning about God. He would read his Bible and follow along with some preaching shows at home.
Johnny was married to Nita Bowers Purdom for 50 years. After Nita’s death Treva McClung became his companion. Treva was a blessing to our family and made Johnny very happy. He will be forever missed by all those who had the privilege of knowing and loving him.
Johnny is preceded in death by his parents, sisters Linda Mae, Patricia Ann Chaney, brother Elgie Ray Purdom, wife Nita Bowers Purdom, and son in law Walter Franklin.
Johnny is survived by his great friend and companion of 3 ½ years, Treva McClung, daughters Tammy Franklin, Tina and husband Michael McChristian. Three grandchildren Tailor Halbert, Kendall Franklin and Alyssa McChristian and one great grandchild Mila Halbert. Brothers Dane and wife Brenda Sloan, Delbert Sloan, and sister Ruth Ann Green, along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A memorial service to honor the life of Johnny will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, February 1, 2024, at Coweta First United Methodist Church, located at 206 W Sycamore St, Coweta, OK 74429. The U.S. Army Honor Guard will be in attendance to perform Military Honors in remembrance of Johnny as well as his service to his country.
Florists may deliver any flowers directly to Coweta First United Methodist Church by Thursday, February 1, 2024, in order for them to be set out and properly displayed for Johnny's services as Floral Haven is not involved nor staffing the service directly.
