Johnny Ray Baker's Obituary
Johnny Ray Baker was born December 1, 1924, in Gould, OK. At 92, he had lived a full life and passed away in Broken Arrow, OK, on August 12, 2017. He was the son of John A. and Rena Baker. He graduated from Gould High School in 1942, and immediately entered the military and World War II. He served in France as an engineer and celebrated VE day in Paris where he witnessed General Patton in the victory parade. After fulfilling his enlistment, he enrolled at Oklahoma A&M (now Oklahoma State University) where he received a degree in Architectural Engineering. While in Stillwater, he married Ruth Ann Lafferty in 1948. Shortly thereafter, he was called to serve in the Korean War.After serving his country, he began his career with United States Gypsum in Southard, OK. His 28 year career as a general manager with USG took him to Houston, Chicago, Los Angeles, Montana, Oklahoma, Iowa, Wisconsin and Alabama. Following his retirement from USG, he began a career with Domtar Gypsum Company. His 7 year career with Domtar took him to Los Angeles, Seattle and Sweetwater, TX.Johnny and Ruth Ann then retired to Broken Arrow, OK, to be near family and their beloved Oklahoma State Cowboys. Throughout the years, he enjoyed working with his hands, dogs, golfing, fishing, gardening and collecting Indian artifacts.He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Mary Lou Baker Carveth, and wife of 62 years, Ruth Ann. Johnny is survived by his son Lloyd Baker and wife Mary Ann of Maple Valley, WA; daughter Lisa Bates and husband Wayne of Broken Arrow, OK; son Todd Baker and wife Rosanne of Bonita Springs, FL; son Trent Baker and wife Terri of Broken Arrow, OK. Johnny enjoyed his 10 grandchildren, and 7 great grandchildren.A private family memorial will be held on Thursday, August 17th.In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to www.foldsofhonor.org
