Johnny McArthur Tygart Sr.'s Obituary
Johnny McArthur Tygart, Sr., of Tulsa, Oklahoma, passed away on February 9, 2025, at the age of 82. Born on February 23, 1942, in Vulcan, West Virginia, Johnny was the son of Henry Harmon Tygart and Mary Lou Blankenship Tygart.
A hardworking and dedicated man, Johnny built a career as a sales representative in the grocery industry. Beyond his professional life, Johnny joined the Eastgate Masonic Lodge #543 in 1973 and quickly became the Worshipful Master in 1978. He was well known for his good works with lectures. He found great joy in sports, playing baseball and fast-pitch softball, coaching little league, and sharing special moments "Passing the Ball" with his kids. An avid golfer and bowler, he spent many enjoyable hours on the green and at the lanes.
Johnny had a deep love for his home and took great pride in maintaining the most immaculate yard on the street. He had a fondness for snacks, particularly various types of nuts, and could always be found with a lottery ticket in hand. He enjoyed the simple pleasures of life - watching Fox News and Newsmax, reading, and immersing himself in the Bible and biblical studies.
A true lover of bluegrass music, Johnny played both the guitar and banjo, filling his home with the sounds of the music he cherished. But nothing brought him more joy than spending time with his beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whose visits he treasured.
Johnny is survived by his devoted wife of 62 years, Geri Tygart; his three children, Johnny McArthur Tygart, Jr. and his wife Cindy of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, Lori Durbin and her husband Tom of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Craig Tygart and his wife Stephanie of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; two brothers, Larry Tygart and his wife Yhulonda of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Bobby Tygart and his wife Julianna of Torrington, Connecticut; ten grandchildren: David, Joseph, Joshua and his wife Nicki, Matthew, Ashley and her husband Jon, Tanner and his wife Jordan, Sommer and her husband Karl, Amber and her husband Richie, Riley, and Emily; fourteen great-grandchildren: Zion, Gabel, Noah, Brooklyn, Rydic, Tinley, Grayson, Julian, Kole, Millie, Gentry, John, Avery, Luke, RJ, and Cooper; his cherished fur baby, Spinkle; and many extended family members and friends.
