"I like to remember Uncle Joe in many ways, but the last few times I spoke with him will endear him to my heart forever. Last year, he called me in late October and asked me exactly when I was leaving to work in Saudi Arabia for a few months. I told him late November and he said “Ok, then. I’m going to call you every week until you leave”. So for the next few weeks he called me and we just chatted about things that didn’t seem important, but indeed they are, when you are not sure if you will see that person again. Contrary to what you might think, that I would worry about not seeing him again because of his age, it was just the opposite. You see, he let me know he cared about me and was concerned about me in a far away land. He didn’t say as much, but his calls made me understand his love. He made me feel precious, and I will always remember him for that among other things. "--Susan Patterson Bauguss (niece)
