Joseph Michael Jaytanie's Obituary
Joseph Michael Jaytanie was born Feb. 9, 1927 and passed from this life on Feb. 8, 2017, just short of his 90th birthday.He was born in Clifton , New Jersey, whose father came to America from Lebanon and 13 years later his mother arrived in Sherburne, New York.Joseph grew up in Sherburne, New York and attended Sherburne-Earlville schools, graduating in 1944. One week after graduation , he joined the Army Air Corp and left for training in Biloxi, Mississippi. After training, he was sent to Germany.Upon returning home, he went to Syracuse University and became an electrical engineer. He worked for Ta Co Industries where he received a patent on a very poplar antenna. he also worked in New Mexico installing radar equipment that would protect America.Before coming to Oklahoma to help his nephew in the oil business, he was working on a radar system for the government on radar equipment for the B-1 bomber plane.After moving to Oklahoma City and working in the drilling business in and around Bristow, he met his wife Ruth and they were married Nov. 24, 1983. Together they had a business in downtown Tulsa and enjoyed raising and racing horses, traveling the United States and Germany. Joseph also was an avid reader and loved his dobermans.He was preceded in death by his parents Tofiek and Marion Jaytanie and two sisters, Najeeba Merhib and Waheba.Survivors include in wife, Ruth Jaytanie, Dorothy Cook and husband, Woody; Joanne and Ralph Duncan; John and Leigh Reaves; Jana Foley; Jeff Reaves;Jay Reaves and Jill Reaves; 11 grandchildren and three great grandchildren.Memorial Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, February 16, 2017 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Bristow.
