Uncle Joe was a much-loved role model during my childhood and teen years. He literally lit up a room with his sunny personality. He always had a kind word for us, his nieces. I remember him as a devoted family man. Our gatherings with Uncle Joe, Aunt Mary, and the four Pettella siblings were fun and full of laughter. So many memories - his lively sense of humor, his ability to strike up a fun conversation, his life-long love of the New York Yankees, his commitment to supporting his big sister Gloria (my mom) through all the stages of her life. I know that his unique spirit lives on through his amazingly accomplished children, grandchildren, and his precious little great-grandson.
