Joseph E. Schaffer's Obituary
Joseph E. Schaffer September 27, 1934 ~ December 6, 2012 Joe was born in Piqua, Ohio the son of James and Mae Schaffer. Preceded in death by parents, brother Jim and sisters Betty Schmitmeyer and Rosemary Daub. Joe is survived by his wife of 53 years, Janet L. Schaffer. His children, son Scott (Kim) of Mesquite, TX, daughter Cindy Welytok (Bryan) of Lowell, AR, and daughter Denise of Lewisburg, PA. Grandchildren, Samantha and Sarah Schaffer, and Grant and Sean Welytok. His sister, Lois Fair of Piqua, OH and his brother Bill Schaffer of Bradford, OH. Joe is also survived by his faithful, furry walking companion, Bear, whom he would walk with daily. Joe received his Honorable Discharge from the US Navy in 1958 and the US Navy Reserve in 1962. He was a recipient of the Good Conduct Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. He retired from American Airlines after 37 years as a Quality Assurance Inspector. Since his retirement, every Wednesday he would faithfully volunteer as a Blood Services Transport Driver for the American Red Cross. Joe was bery caring and compassionate with others, especially his family. He loved any type of stray dog and was constantly mowing the grass or trimming the bushes, whether they needed it or not. He will be greatly missed.
