Joseph Patrick Scully's Obituary
Joseph Patrick Scully, 86, passed from this life on January 24, 2026. A resident of Kiefer, Oklahoma, he was born on December 14, 1939, in Fort Smith, Arkansas, to Joseph E. Scully and Dorothy (Carson) Scully, who welcomed him into a world he would later enrich with his steady character, devotion, and strength.
Joseph married the love of his life, Jannis Fern Scully, and together they built a family grounded in faith and loyalty. Their union was blessed with two children, Joe Jr. and Dorlyn, who remained a source of pride and joy throughout his life.
A proud veteran, Joseph served his country in the United States Navy as a boatswain’s mate aboard the USS Kitty Hawk. His time in the Navy was a defining chapter. One he carried with honor and spoke of with great pride. The discipline, camaraderie, and sense of duty he found there stayed with him always.
After completing his military service, Joseph continued his life of hard work and craftsmanship as a machinist for McDonnell Douglas Aircraft. His skill, precision, and dedication were evident in every task he undertook.
In his younger years, Joseph also devoted time to teaching Bible school, a role he cherished. His faith was a guiding force in his life, and he found joy in sharing it with others, especially the young people he taught.
In the final chapter of his life, he shared his home with his deaf grandson, Casey. Their time together fostered a deeply meaningful bond, strengthened through companionship, mutual understanding, and the quiet comfort of being there for one another.
Joseph’s legacy is one of service—service to his family, his country, his work, and his faith. He will be remembered for his steadfast spirit and the love he poured into those who are fortunate enough to know him. He leaves behind a family who will forever hold him close in their hearts, grateful for the example he set and the memories he leaves. May he rest in peace.
He is preceded in death by his wife Jannis Fern Scully, and his brother Michael Scully. Left to cherish Joseph’s memory are his children Joe Scully, Jr. and Dorlyn Waits; his grandchildren Casey Scully, Amber McDaniel, Mandi Gunn, Nicolas Scully, Jesse Waits, and Briden Scully; his great grandchildren May, Sage, Jane, Selah, Eowin, and Fable; along with other family members and friends who will forever cherish his memory.
