Joyce Mae Sams' Obituary
We celebrate the life of Joyce Mae Sams, who passed away on April 2, 2026, at the age of 83.
Joyce was born on December 29, 1942, in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She lived fully and loved deeply. Whether it was watching a hockey game, playing bingo, or simply spending time with her family, Joyce brought joy and warmth to everyone around her.
Joyce had a deep love for animals and found great fulfillment working with them through her former position with Animal Aid of Tulsa. Her compassion extended beyond animals as she later went on to serve others as a Respiratory Technician at St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa, where she dedicated herself to caring for those in need. She retired from this position in 1993.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Glady Johnson; her grandparents, Oral and Ida Wheeler; and her son, Randall Martin Sams.
Joyce leaves behind a loving and devoted family. She is survived by her children: Richard and Shannon Barto; Scott and Donna Barto; Michael Barto; Wendi and Brian Bowen; and Corky and Jennifer Sams.
She was a proud grandmother to 13 grandchildren: Timmothy Barto; Victoria Carness; Michelle Barto; Hunter Barto; Tiffany Barto; Malissa and Kevin Gallimore; Maranda and Rudy Magana; Sheikhea Antonio; David Barto; Christopher King; Brandon Foley; Amanda Cunningham; Jessica Foley; Ryleigh Bowen; and Kaedynn Sams.
Joyce was also blessed with 9 great-grandchildren: Jennyka, Amathyst, Lana, Ryker, Chase, Noah, Annalie, Benjamin, and Kellan.
Her legacy of love, compassion, and dedication—to both people and animals—will live on in all who knew her.
