Juanita Carpenter's Obituary
Juanita Virgene Carpenter, 95, of Tulsa, Oklahoma went to be with her Lord and Savior on March 12th, 2026, surrounded by her beloved family.
She was born at home on January 29th, 1931 in Moffett, Oklahoma to Gene and Edith Metcalf. She attended Roland High School, where she excelled playing 6-on-6 basketball. Immediately after graduating in 1948, she moved to Tulsa to pursue work. She married Dempsey Carpenter on September 23, 1950 after meeting him on a basketball court. In 1951, Dempsey and Juanita welcomed a son, Alan Wayne. Eleven years and one day later, they were blessed with a daughter, Vicki Lynn. These years were joyfully spent supporting their children and pouring themselves into the hobbies and athletics of Alan and Vicki.
Juanita was a bright light to her family and friends. She carried joy everywhere she went, beautiful and full of grace. She was smart, wise, and strong - leaving a legacy of faith to her family. She found joy outdoors, whether it be gardening, fishing, or enjoying her grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s sporting endeavors. She was the ultimate cheerleader for her family! In her free time, she enjoyed tending to her African Violets, and spent many years serving at the African Violet Society of Greater Tulsa. In her late 70s, she began attending The Park Church of Christ, and at the age of 81, she was baptized, declaring Jesus the Lord and Savior of her life! Her later years were spent becoming a student of the Bible, serving alongside her church friends, and pouring herself into her great-grandchildren. It was no secret that they were the joy of her life, and she took great pride in being called “Grammy!”
Juanita was preceded in death by her parents, Gene and Edith Metcalf; her husband, Dempsey Carpenter; and her brother, Ronnie Metcalf.
She is survived by her son, Alan Carpenter; her daughter, Vicki Friedline; her granddaughter, Lindsi Hancock (Alan); her grandson Jordan Snodgrass (Jessica); her great-granddaughters, Brooke, Paige, and Morgan; her great-grandsons, Cale and Wade; her great-great-grandson, Ryder, her brother, Darrell Metcalf (Ruby); and a host of other family members who loved her.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, March 26th at 11am at the Park Church of Christ, 10600 East 96th Street South.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Season’s Hospice.
“Surely your goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.” Psalm 23:6
