To the Pollard family:She touched my life no doubt. As I think about my youth and living on East Haskell Street and 13th and Quebec…I can't help but think about Juanita Pollard. I was always in awe of her love for Bert, her three boys and one daughter and still having the time for lots of good conversations, all the sports, activities and all the cooking! I often wondered,.."how does she do it". She was a strong no-nonsense mom always telling it like it really was! I loved her for that, and will always remember her kindness, great sense of humor and her love for family and friends. May you Rest in Peace sweet Juanita. As I write this, the services for Juanita are underway and I am so sorry I can't be there. How could I begin to express all that Juanita meant to our family, and so many families on North Darlington. I depended on Juanita during the final years of my Mom's life, and she never let me down. How many times did I call her and ask her to check to see if Mom's car was there, or ask her to run over and see if Mom was okay because she wasn't answering her phone. She gave peace of mind to my brothers and me, and she added companionship and purpose to my Mom's life. I am forever grateful to Juanita, and Bert – I love them both so very much.

Whenever I think about my childhood,it always includes North Darlington Avenue and the people who lived there. Juanita Pollard was one of those people. Juanita was a key figure in the development,improvement,and many years later,the stability of the neighborhood. Since I still own the "old house" ,as we affectionately call it, I often drive by to check on it. I always had a sense of comfort knowing that Juanita and Bert were still there "holding down the fort" for those of us who have moved away. Juanita Pollard was vital member of the proud generation who transformed the street of North Darlington Avenue into a neighborhood. The men and women who purchased these homes were and are American heroes. Juanita did not raise just her three fine boys and wonderful daughter; she helped raise me â?? and my brother, and my sisterâ?¦ and Jimmy Dolph and Billy Cunninghamâ?¦.. Skipper and Dixieâ?¦.. The list goes on because thatâ??s the way things were, and it was good.We are proud to be a product of that era, and it has been our great pleasure and honor to have known a person of the strength and quiet dignity of Juanita Pollard. There are so many good good memories that Juanita and I shared that I could not began to tell one. We talked on the phone at least two or three times a week if nothing else just to say hello how are you and miss you. Oh how I am going to miss that but Juanita we will talk again some day and I do miss you and love you.JoAnn
