Juanita Lawson's Obituary
Juanita F. Lawson (Points) was born on January 28,1927 in Vian, Oklahoma to Charles E. And Bessie I. Points. Juanita went to be with Jesus, her Lord and Savior, on December 28, 2022.
Juanita moved to California in 1946 where she lived until 2002 when she relocated to Broken Arrow, Oklahoma to be near her family.
She grew up singing with her father in quartets traveling all over singing in churches, on the radio, and T.V. She and her dad attended the Stamps Baxter School of music where they were taught to read shape notes and to sing four-part harmony. They would attend singing conventions and get newly published song books with new songs recently written. To learn the song they would first find the key and timing the song was written in. Then they would sing the song scale with only the notes, example: Do, Do, Re, Fa, Fa, Fa. After completing the song in melody they would then start at the beginning and sing the song with the words. This form of singing has almost become a lost art. In her later years she formed a quartet with her daughters and taught a young man in the church to sing the bass part. One memory that she has left to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren is her singing and clapping her hands to the song “This is the Day that the Lord Hath Made” Many times she would wake them up singing this song.
Juanita was a true servant. She never had a job that was easy and many times she held two jobs at a time. She worked in various restaurants and owning her own restaurant at one time. She worked for several years until retirement as a live in caregiver for Alzheimer patients. She always provided the most excellent care and compassion for those she was responsible for.
Juanita loved Jesus and loved to tell anyone she could about Him. She read the Bible completely 4 times memorizing and quoting scriptures. She was faithful in her church attendance and helped any time she could. In recent years she attended the church services at the nursing home every time they were provided and looked forward to them being there.
She loved her family and prayed for each one of us every night. She had a note pad with each family members name written on it and would say each name as she prayed for us. She was an excellent cook, baker and candy maker. She had a knack for making her food not only delicious but also to look fancy. She would often carve oranges to put her homemade cranberry sauce in or make flowers out of onions or turnips that she dyed. She catered at her church for special events and was active in the Women’s Auxiliary.
Juanita loved to travel and see new places. She loved to go to new and nicer restaurants.
