Juanita Lucile Seymour's Obituary
Juanita Lucile Seymour, age 96 years, passed from this life, April 3, 2015, in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Juanita was born November 14, 1918, to Barney and Addie Pearl (Moad) Cutberth, in Springdale, Arkansas. The family relocated to Hammon in western Oklahoma. Juanita grew up with many relatives in Hammon and the surrounding area and was a member of a big, happy family. She played basketball for and graduated from Hammon High School. Juanita then enrolled in the St. Anthony Hospital School of Nursing in Oklahoma City and graduated as a registered nurse. After working for a short time in Oklahoma City, she enlisted in the United States Army Nurses Corps on October 1, 1941. With the outbreak of World War II, she attended Air Evacuation School and was assigned to the 349th Air Evacuation Squadron. She served as a flight nurse for wounded troops being transported to medical facilities from the east coast after their arrival from Europe. While in the service, she met and married her husband, Leonard, who also had enlisted in the Army in October, 1941. They both attained the rank of 1st Lieutenant and were discharged in December, 1945. They moved to Tulsa, where Juanita worked as a registered nurse in physicians’ offices and at Oklahoma General Hospital. After stopping full-time work to raise her children, Juanita served as a volunteer nurse for the American Red Cross. She was a founding member of the Harvard Avenue United Methodist Church, a Girl Scout leader, and a member of the Tulsa Garden Club. Juanita and Leonard moved to the Broadmoor Retirement Community in 2003 and she was later wonderfully cared for in both the Heatheridge and Leisure Village communities. She was known as the life of the party and for participating in every field trip she possibly could. Both she and her husband were extremely proud of their military service and supported many veteran groups.Juanita will be dearly missed by her son, Michael Seymour and wife, Kathleen; daughter, Lynnita Joy Barkat; grandsons, Stephen Seymour and wife, Toni, and Robert Seymour; granddaughter, Teresa DeSirey; great-grandchildren, Logan Seymour and Lucas Seymour; and nephew, J.B. Cutberth Jr. and wife, Connie. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Leonard M. Seymour Jr. and brother, J.B. Cutberth Sr. In lieu of flowers, a contribution may be made to the Hammon, Oklahoma United Methodist Church. Visitation will be 5:00 pm ~ 8:00 pm, Tuesday, April 7, 2015, in the Floral Haven Funeral Home Visitation Room. A celebration of life ceremony will be held, 10:00 am, Wednesday, April 8, 2015, at the Floral Haven Funeral Home Chapel, Broken Arrow, Oklahoma.
