JUDY WONDERFUL SWEET PERSON,THANK YOU FOR ALL YOUR SUPPORT AND YOUR LITTLE TEXT MESSAGES, I WILL MISS YOU. I LOVE YOU. JODI
Oh, my dear sweet friend. I will miss you so much as will everyone that knew you. To know you was to love you girl! I felt so priviledged to have you in my life. Judy and I met in 1987 working at Stepherson's Big Star (a grocery store) in Memphis, TN. We worked together until she moved away to be with Glenn in 1994 or something like that? I loved it when she was working my shift. We became best friends and loved being together, talking and sharing life stories, talking about her son Glenn, who was my age, born the same year as me, he in February and me in November 1970. Funny how a person born in 1946 and one born in 1970 could become best friends in 1987 and remain so until 2012! In January of 1990, she and I became roomates. My first time living on my own. We became super close then. At that time she had a bird named Baby that she loved and she had taught him how to sing "The Bridge Over the River Kwai". It was so darling. I think he lived 14 years which was long for a cockatiel. I got married in 1997 and asked Judy to be my matron of honor and she accepted. It was a beautiful wedding and I felt so lucky to have her be a part of it. She looked so pretty that day! I visited her several times in Broken Arrow, OK, her step-daughter, Cali, and my niece, Jordan, were about the same age and we always had a good time visiting with her and Chas, Cali and Dale! When my first son was born in 2002 she came to Memphis, TN to see him. I love the picture of them 2! Mostly after becoming a mom we talked and talked and talked over the phone. We wrote letters, and then started emailing each other. I was able to come for a visit while pregnant with my 2nd child and see Glenn before he died. He sure did love his momma and she loved him. Glenn was a gifted writer and knife artist/designer and Judy and him both had a love for heavy metal music. What a cool mom! And then Facebook and texting arrived and I felt even more connected with Judy and the miles just seemed to disappear between us. I felt like I could tell her anything and she would always know exactly what to say in response. She was so smart and was a true listener and always wanted to know more about what was going on with the people she cared about. Judy, legacy will live on through all the people you touch with your love and light. You have made me a better person and I will always remember you! If I had been blessed with a baby girl, her middle name would have been Judya. Maybe in another life! My love and hugs to Chas, Cali, and Dale and all of her other family and friends!! She loved you all!!!
Judy submitted the following to "My Home the Home of Many." It's my book about the history of the American Legion Home School, in Ponca City Oklahoma. The name was change in the 80's, then again in 2010. Now it's called Marland Children's Home. Her birthday was August 14, 1946, we knew her as Judy Ann Mingus.Judy says that she went to live in the Legion Home in 1952, when she was 6 years old. Where she lived for the next 12 years, until she turned 18, living together with over 100 other of us kids. In her Junior year of High School, she attended Oklahoma Girls State, on June 2-9, in 1963. She graduated from Ponca City Oklahoma in 1964. She attended Northwestern State University at Alva on a scholarship from Norval "Butch" Bryson. And alumni of the Home and graduate of Po-Hi. The scholarship was set up to honor Butch who had died young, while attending Northwestern. She also attended Northern Oklahoma Junior College. At the time she wrote this in 1982, she said, "the best thing in her life was her son, Glen." Her sponsors were the Lindsey American Legion Auxiliary, who gave her a big surprise graduation party. It was the love and warmth they extended to her that she appreciated more than the gifts. She will never forget the time on one Auxiliary Day when she was sponsored by T.L. Rider, the Home's first Alumnus. She felt so honored by his kindness. She says the "Kids are all like family."In October of 2007 Judy joined a group of us girls (Legion Home sisters) for a reunion in Tulsa. We spent the week-end celebrating the fact it had been 50 years since we first went to live in the Legion Home. Judy was there taking pictures and we all had a wonderful time. We grew up as sisters in a very unique family, with lots of love for each other. Judy was a sweet sweet girl, full of life and a wonderful sense of humor.Judy's untimely death, saddens all of us, who loved her as a sister. She was a wonderful addition to our unique family, and we will miss her dearly. She had a wonderful faith in Christ and was always willing to send up prayers for others. We, her brothers and sisters, of the American Legion Home School. Will, for now just say, "until we meet again."Our prayers goes out to her other family and wonderful friends. Sincerely, and God Bless Barbra Alusi (alumni sister)
