My name is Nancy and I am Karin’s oldest stepdaughter. I have many fond memories growing up with the Yde family and Karin. Karin treated me as if I were her own daughter. Often I would be over at the house in Willits, hanging out with Signe. Karin would lightly reprimand us about so many things that we as young teens would do, just being silly. For instance, playing badminton in the street until 1 in the morning, making food (macaroni and cheese) and brushing our hair in the kitchen, which she hated! We would beg Edgar to drive us around cruising in his muscle car but he would charge us $5 for gas, which we would complain about to Karin. She would just roll her eyes. And we then still paid him.
One of Karin’s favorite things to say to us was “Waste not, want not, that’s what I always say” every time we wouldn’t finish something or throw things away. For some reason, Signe and I thought that was hilarious and would walk around saying that and giggling about it!
Karin was probably the craftiest person I knew, and could make just about anything. To this day I still have beautiful delicate doilies, crocheted coasters, a knitted purse and baby blankets for my daughter who is now 25 years old. She also made my daughter a complete crocheted wardrobe for a baby doll including a crocheted carrying case. She was a woman of many talents.
Karin was a kind, patient and loving soul, who will be not only greatly missed my myself, but many others in her life who have had the great pleasure of knowing her. 🩷
