Kathy June Moody-Conwell's Obituary
Kathy June Moody-Conwell, 75, of Tulsa, passed away peacefully Monday, May 30th at Clarehouse in Tulsa surrounded by her children.
Kathy King was born July 12, 1946 in San Antonio to Willard and Velma King. She grew up all over the world with her five brothers and sisters in a military family, before settling in Oklahoma.
Kathy was preceded in death by her husband, Robert “Bobby” Conwell; her parents and her brother Kyle King.
Kathy is survived by daughter Lori and husband Chris Sparrow; Son Skip Smith; daughter Jami Williams and husband, Clifford Gritts; step-daughter Shelly Williams and step-son Robert Conwell, all of Tulsa. Brothers Norval and Bonnie King, and Doak and Carolyn King of Texas; sisters Tammy Brummel and Cindy Arwood of Oklahoma; and aunt Betty Ann Gray of Oklahoma.
Kathy is also survived by her 10 grandchildren; Tanner, Rylie, Raegan, Rebecca, Chandler, Cadence, Taitam, Paisley, Kayley and Levi, and six great grandchildren, along with many loving nieces, nephews and cousins.
Mom graduated from Lawton High School in 1964 and lived all over the world: France, Thailand, Germany, China and many states. She made her home in Tulsa in the early 1970’s. She met Hank Smith in Lawton while in high school, when he was serving as an MP for the Army. They soon married and had two children, Lori and Skip. Years later, mom gave birth to our younger sister, Jami. Kathy married Bobby in 1993. Mom and Bobby lived in Tulsa and made a home for all their family, where everyone was always welcome and expected.
After Bobby’s passing, mom moved to Bellarose retirement community where she would make a whole new group of friends! She enjoyed playing cards, crafting, sewing and happy hour at Bellarose with her friends and children. Everyone there quickly became her friends. They were so caring and supportive when mom became sick. They were like family and deeply cared for her.
She was a devoted family matriarch and a faithful patriot who loved the military and her country. Her career was spent in banking and commercial insurance. Kathy graduated with honors from Tulsa Community College in 1995, earning her a highly regarded designation of Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter, CPCU. She attended her graduation in Hawaii and was very proud of this achievement, which allowed her to continue a successful career as a property underwriter, until retirement in 2009. She would also serve as an adjunct professor at Tulsa Community College. She enjoyed sewing, arts and crafts, fishing and all types of games and puzzles. But her biggest joy of all was the love for her children and grandchildren.
Mom made a lasting impression on everyone she ever came in contact with, including strangers, friends and her children’s friends. She never met a stranger and would strike up a conversation with anyone willing to listen. Whether she was sewing for family and friends, taking part in her active arts and crafts activities and shows, painting, shopping, eating a greasy cheeseburger, holiday gatherings, or just out and about town, she would always have a story that usually involved tons of laughter. She loved attending her grandchildren’s events, birthday parties, graduations or family gatherings. Mom LOVED life!!! And, it was always an adventure.
Mom will be missed but always, always remembered!!!!!!
