Kathy Anne Youngblood's Obituary
Kathy Anne (Blanchard) Youngblood passed away on December 23, 2023 in Tulsa. Kathy was born September 26, 1947, in St. Johnsbury, Vermont to Robert Joseph and Frances (Gilfillan) Blanchard. She was the second of four children, spending her early childhood in Vermont and then moving with her family to Okmulgee, OK. While in Okmulgee, she played trumpet and was active in the band council, and attended All-State. She graduated from Okmulgee High School in 1965. Kathy attended Southwestern Oklahoma State University and then the University of Tulsa, graduating in 1972.
On September 7, 1968, she married James D. Youngblood at the First United Methodist Church in Okmulgee. After briefly starting their life together in Dallas, TX, Jim and Kathy moved back to the Tulsa area where they raised both of their daughters, Amy and Alexa. Kathy spent her early career using her gift of Latin teaching medical terminology and medical records to people newly entering the medical field. She finally worked as head of medical records at Children's Medical Center in Tulsa for many years, until her retirement in 1993.
She was highly dedicated to her family, spending most of her time going to soccer games and band contests to support her children. When her children were small, she enjoyed spending weekends and holidays with her parents, brother, and sister and later, meeting her siblings in whatever city all three of them happened to be in at once. She loved playing music as loud as possible, reading books, and chasing endless "rabbit holes" on the internet. She and her husband Jim loved to travel and spent some of their retirement going to McAllen, Texas to see family, to Vermont to visit her childhood home, or anywhere her genealogy research may have taken them. She will be dearly missed by her husband Jim Youngblood; daughters Amy and Alexa; grandson Devin and great-granddaughter Kiara; sister Melinda Crawford and husband Don; brothers Steve Blanchard, Peter Blanchard and his wife Shannon; as well as her many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Celebration of Life Service will be at 3:00 PM, on Wednesday, January 3, 2024, at Floral Haven Funeral Home Chapel.
