Kay Frances Rodgers, 78, transitioned from this life on February 16, 2024, in Claremore, Oklahoma, encircled by her loving family. Born on July 30, 1945, in the picturesque town of Sophia, West Virginia, Kay's journey was destined for greatness, crafting a legacy that will endure through the ages. Kay's life story is a testament to resilience and patriotism, shaped by her roots as a coal miner's daughter and her unwavering commitment to her country, a flame kindled anew as her kin answered the call to serve in the armed forces.
A beacon of compassion and dedication, Kay found her calling as a devoted nurse, tenderly tending to the hearts and souls entrusted to her care. Her intellect illuminated every room she entered, her wisdom a guiding light for those fortunate enough to cross her path. Fearless, Kay stood tall for justice, her words infused with grace and she represented what she always believed was right.
Kay’s graceful demeanor was complemented by her meticulous appearance and hair, often styled with aquanet hairspray, reflecting her inner radiance. Kay was so beautiful inside and out. Affectionately known as Big Red, Kay took immense pride in her grandchildren, their joy bringing light to her days. Kay's heart overflowed with love for her family, and she found solace and joy in their gatherings, especially during the festive season of Christmas. Her presence, love, and laughter enriched the lives of all who knew her, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of those she held dear.
She was preceded in death by her parents Fred Joseph Hodge and Verinda Malie Hodge; brother Freddy Joseph Hodge Jr.; grandchild Johnathan Harris; son in law Robby Mecom; and grand son in law Marshall Roberts.
Kay is survived by her children Frank Cook and his wife Trish, Theresa Hidalgo and her husband Noah, Terry Cook and his wife Shannon, Cathy Mecom, and Joseph McManus and his wife Bekki; 17 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; and a host of other family members and friends who will cherish all the memories that they were gifted with Kay.
Though she may have bid us farewell, Kay's spirit lives on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know her, a radiant legacy that will endure for generations to come. As we mourn her passing, let us also celebrate the vibrant tapestry of her life, a life well-lived and deeply cherished.
A memorial service will be held in Kay’s honor on Wednesday, February 21st, 2024, at Floral Haven’s Chapel located at 6500 S. 129th E. Ave., Broken Arrow, OK 74012 at 3:00PM. A reception will follow the service at the Floral Haven’s family center to share memories and a meal with the family.
