Kay “Red Flower” Twist
February 27, 1936 – January 3, 2025
Kay “Red Flower” Twist, a beloved member of the Cherokee Tribe, passed away peacefully on January 3, 2025, in Muskogee, Oklahoma. Born on February 27, 1936, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, to Kuroki Twist and Ruth Frances Lawhorn Twist, Kay lived a life enriched with culture, family, and adventures.
Kay had a distinguished career as a Supervisor of Word Processors at Wang Industries, where she dedicated 35 years of her life to her work. After her retirement, she continued to lead a life full of interests and passions.
A proud Cherokee, Kay loved to speak her native language and was an avid collector of Hot Wheels, McDonald’s toys, and stamps. She had a love for traveling, often embarking on journeys with her best friend and college roommate, Fern. Her travels frequently took her to casinos, with Las Vegas being a particular favorite.
Kay is survived by her two nieces, Lisa Twist and Tana Twist; her great-nieces and nephews, William Twist and his wife Jodi, Kayla Twist, and Alex Twist; as well as her great-great-nieces and nephews, Austin Twist, Alexis Twist, Eric Twist, and William Twist. She was preceded in death by her parents; her siblings, William Duane “Bill” Twist, Tony Twist, David Twist and Sharon Twist; and her great-great-nephew, Koda Twist.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects at a visitation from 4-7 PM on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, at Floral Haven Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 3 PM on Thursday, January 9, 2025, at the Floral Haven Funeral Home Chapel.
Kay’s legacy will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
